A pause for StatThread

Today, we are announcing a pause for StatThread.

When we started, we wanted to build tools for connection. But the context has changed. With the rapid rise of centralized digital ID systems and the potential for misuse of linked identifiers (like QR codes) and vision AI, we have reached a point where the ethical risk outweighs the utility.

We do not want to build infrastructure that could be repurposed or contribute for surveillance or control. We want no part of a system that compromises human sovereignty.

Thank you to everyone who trusted us. When we saw where this was heading, we chose the only path we could live with: walk away.

We may return with static clothing advocating for the same principles—with a refreshed state. For now, goodbye.
